    Two officials to be inducted into

    National High School Hall of Fame

                                        Jerry Kimmel                Haig Nighohossian

    Two longtime high school officials will be among the 13 individuals to be inducted into the National Federation of State High School Associations National High School Hall of Fame.

    Those officials are Jerry Kimmel of Kentucky and Haig Nighohossian of Illinois.

    Along with five high school coaches, four athletes, one administrator and one in the performing arts, Kimmel and Nighohossian will be inducted into the NFHS National High School Hall of Fame June 27 at the Hyatt Regency Denver at Colorado Convention Center in Denver, Colorado. The 31st Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be the closing event of the 94th annual NFHS Summer Meeting.

    Free Online Concussion Course Available at!


    Concussion is prevalent in many sports due to the physical nature often involved in the games.

    The National Federation of State High School Associations has developed an online concussion course that is FREE to EVERYONE. This course was developed for officials, coaches, students, administrators and anyone that is involved or around students. Once again, this is a free course that can be completed in 20-25 minutes online.     High School Sports Participation

    Tops 7.6 Million, Sets Record

    INDIANAPOLIS, IN (September 8, 2010) — Participation in high school sports increased for the 21stconsecutive school year in 2009-10, eclipsing the 7.6 million mark for the first time.

    Based on figures from the 50 state high school athletic/activity associations, plus the District of Columbia, that are members of the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), participation for the 2009-10 school year reached a record-breaking total of 7,628,377 participants, according to the 2009-10 High School Athletics Participation Survey conducted by the NFHS.

    Boys and girls participation figures also reached respective all-time highs with 4,455,740 boys and 3,172,637 girls participating in 2009-10. Boys participation increased by 33,078 this year, while the girls figure increased by 58,546.
